Updated Dark Mode 1.8.0Tested with WordPress 7.1

Every post, page and product carries a Dark Mode box in its editor, in the sidebar beside the other settings for that page. Three answers:

  • Use the site setting — the default. The Display Rules screen decides.
  • Open in dark mode — for a landing page or a photo essay meant to be seen dark. It wins over Automatic Switching and over the visitor's device setting, because it is the more specific answer. A visitor who has already chosen light still gets light: they have answered the question, and a page does not get to answer it again for them.
  • Never dark — no toggle button and no dark mode here at all.

The box works on the page you have chosen as your Posts page and on the WooCommerce Shop page as well, although WordPress shows both as lists rather than as a single page.

On a site translated with WPML or Polylang, a translation whose box is left on Use the site setting follows the page it translates, so a page set to never go dark stays light in every language. Give the translation its own answer to make it differ.

This is the right tool for one page. Display Rules is the right tool for a kind of page — every product, every archive, everything under a category.
