Moving a setup to another site

Updated Dark Mode 1.8.0Tested with WordPress 7.1

Under Advanced → Import / Export, press Export settings. On the next site, choose that file under Import file and press Import settings.

The file contains your settings and nothing else: no content, no customer data and no licence key. Everything in it is checked on the way back in exactly as it would be if you had typed it into a form, so a hand-edited file cannot put a value into your site that a settings screen would have refused.

A few settings name your content by its number: the dark logo, and Display Rules that pick out particular pages, posts or categories. Those numbers mean something different on another site — your "Night sale" page could be another site's "About us" — so they are left out when the file came from a different site, and the message after the import says so. Set them again on the new site. Rules about kinds of page, such as the shop or the front page, travel as they are. Importing a file this same site exported, to restore a backup, keeps everything.

Your theme's own dark style travels with the theme it belongs to. A file made while another theme was active leaves it out, the method becomes Automatic, and the message after the import names that theme.

Reset settings on the same screen puts every setting back to how it arrived. Your usage figures are kept.
