Moving your settings to another site

Updated Lucky Wheel 1.12.0Tested with WordPress 7.1

Settings → Import / Export.

Set the wheel up once — the prizes and their odds, the colours, the wording, the coupon defaults, when the popup appears — and take that to your next site instead of building it again from a screenshot. Export settings gives you a small .json file; Import settings on the other site reads it.

The prizes travel: their labels, types, amounts, odds, colours and expiry settings arrive on the new site as they were. Their Coupon rules do not, because each names a coupon by its number, and coupon 412 here is a different coupon, or nothing, on the other site.

Each prize's stock and Sold out mark travel too, as they were when the file was made. Importing a file back into a shop that has been winning since puts those numbers back, so a prize won since then can be won again, and one that sold out can come back. After importing into a live shop, check the Stock column on the Wheel screen.

The expiry reminder's switch, its days and its wording travel. The reminders already booked, and the Dashboard's counts of them, stay with the site whose codes they are.

Some things are deliberately left out, or come across another way.

Passwords and keys. Your reCAPTCHA secret and your Mailchimp and Klaviyo API keys are never written into the file. It is a file made to be moved — emailed, dropped in a shared folder, sometimes committed — and a key in a file that travels is a key that leaks. The switches travel; you paste the keys in again on the new site. Importing a file into a site that already has keys keeps them.

MailPoet and FluentCRM lists. The switches travel, and so does FluentCRM's Ask them to confirm first; the lists and tags do not, as list 3 here is a different list, or none, on the other site. A site that already has them chosen keeps its own. When a file switches one on where no list is chosen yet, the message after the import says to choose one on the Email Lists screen.

The terms page. The Terms page under Prizes and Chances travels by its address. A file from another site chooses the page with the same address on this one, and when there is none, no page is chosen and the message after the import says something naming a page was left out.

Rules that name a page. If the popup is set to show only on particular pages, posts or categories, those are numbers, and the page that is number 412 here is something else on the other site. Those lists are left as they were and the message after the import says so. A file re-imported into the site that made it keeps everything.

Coupon rules on prizes. A file from another site does not bring them, and no prize takes the coupon rules this site had before. A prize that had coupon rules on the other site arrives marked Needs coupon rules on the Wheel screen and cannot be won until you choose its rules here, or untick the mark to use the Coupon Defaults instead. That keeps a free gift from arriving as 100% off the whole order. A prize that had no coupon rules there arrives without any. The message after the import says the coupon rules stayed on the other site, and the Wheel screen and the Dashboard name each prize that is waiting. A file re-imported into the site that made it keeps them.

An imported value goes through exactly the same checks as one you typed into a form, so a hand-edited file cannot put anything into your settings that a screen would have refused.
