Table of Contents Documentation

Give a long post a contents list readers actually use — and hand Google a set of links straight into your sections.

Extras

Bring it back once it has scrolled off puts a small button in the corner that reopens the list from anywhere in the article. The list in the post does not move — the button opens a copy.

Show how far through the post they are draws a thin bar across the top of the window and inside the list.

Say how long the post takes to read counts at about 200 words a minute. Say how many sections there are puts the count beside the heading. Let a long list be filtered adds a search box, but only once the list is long enough to be worth filtering — a filter above six links is more work than reading them.

All four are off by default. They suit a long guide and clutter a short one, so the decision is yours rather than ours.
