Sixteen looks. The quiet ones:

• Card — a bordered panel. The default.
• Plain — no box at all, just the list in your theme's type.
• Rules — a heavy line above and below, open at the sides.
• Minimal — a hairline and a lot of air.
• Tinted — a soft wash of the accent colour.
• Pill — deeply rounded, with each entry a pill on hover.

The structural ones:

• Rail — a thick accent bar down the left edge.
• Bracket — top, left and bottom, open on the right.
• Ladder — a line down the list with a dot on each entry that fills as you reach it.
• Steps — numbered circles joined by a line, for a how-to with ordered parts.
• Numerals — large figures set beside each entry.
• Notebook — ruled lines and a margin.

And the loud ones:

• Midnight — light type on a dark panel.
• Magazine — a serif title, small caps and a rule under each entry.
• Underline — no box; each entry underlines itself as you point at it.
• Compact — small type packed tight, for a reference page with forty headings.

Colours are left empty on purpose. Empty means "whatever this design says", so changing design actually changes the colours. Set one and it wins, whichever design you pick afterwards.

Numerals and Steps draw a figure beside every entry, so they use numbering even if it is set to None — otherwise they would render a column of empty circles.

Numbering and layout

Numbering runs none, bullets, 1. 2. 3., nested 1.1.1., roman or alphabetic. Roman and alphabetic alternate by depth the way a printed outline does — I. then A. then 1. — because six levels of roman numerals is unreadable.

The numbers are real text rather than CSS counters, so a screen reader reads them, they copy with the list, and a collapsed branch cannot make them wrong.

Width is the measure the list is set to. Full width of the post is the default and means exactly that — the same measure your theme gives every paragraph, so the list lines up with the text above and below it. Half and Narrow narrow it from that measure and centre it on the text column.

There is deliberately no alignment control. A block theme centres post content with a rule nothing else can override, so an alignment setting would do nothing on most themes.

Layout is nested or flat. Nested can be folded branch by branch. Flat is one run of indented entries and is the one that can be set in columns — a nested list split into columns gets cut through the middle of a branch.
