Getting started

Updated Coming Soon and Maintenance Mode 1.12.0Tested with WordPress 7.1

Install and activate the plugin. Nothing happens yet — a plugin that takes your site down the moment it is activated is a plugin that gets deactivated in a panic, so the mode starts off.

Then, in about two minutes:

  1. Page — choose Coming soon or Maintenance, add your logo, and write a headline and a sentence. (A shop that only needs to stop orders for a while chooses Shop closed for orders: see below.)
  2. Design — pick one of the eighteen looks. Change any of the four colours if you want to; leave them and the design decides.
  3. Settings — set a switch-off time, if you know it.
  4. Back on Dashboard, press Enable coming soon mode.

Open live preview, at the top of The page and Design, shows the real page in a new tab — drawn by the same code a visitor gets, from what is on the screen at that moment, including anything you have not saved. It opens in a tab of its own because the page is a whole screen's worth of design, and a preview of it that is honest about its size leaves no room for the fields.

Preview the page, at the top of the Dashboard and under the coming soon item in the toolbar, shows the page as it is saved. Use it to check what visitors get: signed in, you are always let through, so View the site shows you your own site whether the mode is on or not.

Enable and Disable on the Dashboard each do only what they say. If the Dashboard has been open a while and the mode was switched the same way since, in another tab or by the clock, the press changes nothing and the message after it says so: Disable never switches the mode on, and Enable never takes your page down. A Dashboard left open from before an update of this plugin changes nothing when pressed, and asks you to check the status and press again.

If your Switch off at time passed while the Dashboard was open, Disable finishes what that time started. When it asked you about the launch email, it switches the mode off there and then and emails the list only if you said yes. When it asked nothing, WordPress's scheduled switch-off does it shortly and tells the list, and the press changes nothing. When nothing was scheduled for that time, Disable switches the mode off and says how many people were not emailed.
