Answer
What is a "mail service" and do I have to pay for one?
A company whose business is being trusted by the servers that receive email: Gmail, Microsoft 365, SendGrid, Mailgun, Postmark, Brevo and so on. Your site hands the message to them, they sign it and deliver it, and they tell you if it is refused.
For the amount a normal WordPress site sends, most of them are free. If you already have Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 for your own email, you can use that and add nothing.
Still stuck? Ask the developers who wrote it. We aim to reply within one business day.
