How long a page is kept
Settings → Keep a page for is a safety net, not the plan. Twelve hours by default. Pages are thrown away when something changes them; the clock is only there to catch what no event told us about.
The front page can have a shorter life of its own, which is worth doing on a site whose home page shows something that changes without anybody editing it.
