Exporting what you are looking at
The download button on the toolbar writes what is on screen to a .csv file: the filters that are on, the columns that are showing, in the order they are shown, sorted the way the grid is sorted. Not the whole table — the view.
The editor has no file import: a supplier's figures come in through Paste a list, pasted or opened from their CSV file (see Pasting a list from a spreadsheet), and this button is for reading a list out: the products with no image to send to a photographer, everything under five in stock for a supplier, last week's orders for an accountant. Filter down to exactly that, press download, and the file is what you were looking at.
Categories, tags and attributes come out as their names rather than their numbers, so the file is one a person can read. The file opens in Excel with its accents intact, because it carries the mark Excel looks for.
Each editor exports its own records, and only if you may edit them: somebody who can moderate reviews can export reviews and nothing else.
Very large exports stop at fifty thousand rows and say so in a line at the end of the file rather than ending quietly, so a file that looks complete always is.
The file is the list as it was when you pressed download: which records are in it and their order are taken first, and the rows are then written a page at a time. Your shop keeps trading while a large file is written, and an order moves a product up or down a list sorted by stock, units sold or last modified, and puts a new order at the top of a list of orders. Each record still comes out once, in the place it had when the export began, with its values as they are when its row is written. A record deleted while the file is being written, or changed so that it no longer matches your filters (an order completed while you export the processing ones, say), is left out, and a line at the end of the file says how many were. Records added meanwhile are not in the file; export again to include them.
On Products, an export lists up to 2,000 variations for each page of products, four times what the grid shows (developers can change this with the trbe_export_variation_rows_per_page filter). If a page has more, the last line of the file says how many variations were left out. Show fewer rows per page and export again to include them.
