Speed, caching and privacy
One stylesheet and one script, loaded only on pages that render a timer. No jQuery on the front end, no web fonts and no third-party requests.
The remaining time is rendered on the server and the script recomputes it from a timestamp in the markup, so a page served from a cache an hour later still shows the right number. The only thing stored about a visitor is when they first saw a per-visitor campaign, in a cookie on their own machine.
