Choosing networks
The buttons → Networks. Tick the ones you want and use the arrows to put them in order; the order in the list is the order on the page.
Four or five buttons earn more shares than fifteen. A long row is a decision, and readers skip decisions. Look at your dashboard after a few weeks and drop whatever nobody uses.
Three of the buttons are not networks at all:
- Copy link copies the page's canonical URL. It is quietly one of the most used buttons on most sites — people share by pasting into a message far more often than through a share dialog.
- Print opens the print dialog, which recipe and reference sites want.
- More opens the phone's own share sheet, with every app the reader has installed. On a desktop, where no share sheet exists, it copies the link instead of doing nothing.
Mastodon has no single website, so the first time a reader uses it they are asked which server they are on. The answer is remembered in their browser and they are not asked again.
