Follow buttons
The share buttons let a reader pass a page on. Follow buttons let a reader follow you: plain links to your own profiles on other sites.
Follow → Your profiles. Choose a network, paste your profile address, and use the arrows to set the order. Add a profile gives another row, and Remove takes one away. The arrows and Remove work from the keyboard, the focus stays where you pressed, and a screen reader hears each change. Without JavaScript the screen still works: the empty row at the foot adds one profile each time you save, and emptying an address removes it.
The networks are Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, Telegram, a WhatsApp channel, Spotify, Twitch, GitHub, RSS and Email. Twenty profiles at most.
Each address is checked when you save. It has to start with https:// and be on the network's own site: instagram.com for Instagram, facebook.com or fb.com for Facebook, x.com or twitter.com for X, any Pinterest country site or pin.it, whatsapp.com/channel/ for a WhatsApp channel, and so on. Mastodon and RSS take any https:// address, because a Mastodon server and a feed can be anywhere. For Email, type the address; it is kept as a mailto: link. An address is kept as you pasted it, including the %C3%A9 a browser writes for an accented letter. An address that does not pass is not saved: the message after saving names it and says why, and it stays in the list, marked, for you to correct or remove. Everything else on the screen is saved. The same profile entered twice is kept once.
Show a heading above the buttons is on unless you turn it off. Heading is the line above them. Left empty it is "Follow us", in the reader's language. Button style is As the share buttons, or any of the twelve styles; corners, size, names and colours follow the Networks screen. Also show under the share buttons below posts adds them right under the share buttons wherever those are shown below a post, and never in an excerpt, a feed or an embed. It is off until you tick it.
To put them anywhere else, add the Follow Buttons block, which can take its own style, size and alignment, or use the shortcode or the template tag:
[trasl_follow]
[trasl_follow template="outline" size="large" align="center"]
<?php if ( function_exists( 'trss_follow_buttons' ) ) { trss_follow_buttons(); } ?>All three draw the same links, in the order you set. They show wherever you place them, whether or not Enable share buttons is on. With no profiles yet, an editor viewing the page sees "Add your profiles on the Follow screen" and visitors see nothing.
Each button is a plain link that opens the profile in a new tab and says so to a screen reader. Each one's spoken name contains the name it shows, so a reader using voice control can say what they see. A Mastodon link carries rel="me", so Mastodon can show your site as verified on your profile: add your site's address to the profile, and show the follow buttons on the page that address opens. The Email button opens the reader's mail program instead. There are no counts and no script, and the marks are drawn into the page, so nothing is requested from any other site until a reader clicks. The stylesheet they use loads only on pages that show them. Their colours are worked out as the share buttons' are, so every mark and name reaches 4.5:1 in every style on a light page, and the styles that write the name in your theme's own text colour read as your text does.
