The buttons are not showing

Work down this list:

  1. Display — is the switch at the top on, is at least one spot ticked, and is the content type of the page you are looking at ticked?
  2. Is the post excluded? Check Exclude on the Display screen, and Hide share buttons on this post in the post's sidebar.
  3. Is a cache serving an older copy of the page? Saving empties the caching plugins this one knows; a host's own cache or a CDN may need clearing by hand.
  4. If you are on the front page or an archive, those are off by default.

The dashboard names the problem when it is one of these. Until the first share it also says where the buttons are showing and links to a page they are on, and it warns you when nothing of the chosen content types is published. On a shop with products and no blog posts, that is the usual answer: tick Products under Display on, or Product summary (below Add to cart) under Positions.

A blog post about layering for autumn. A grey pull quote reads: Dress for the walk home, not for the walk in, with a Post this link marked with the X logo. Under the last paragraph, a Share this heading sits above X, Facebook, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Email and Copy link buttons in each network's colour. A column of the same six icons runs down the left edge of the screen.
