The words are hard to read over my picture

Raise Overlay darkness on the Design screen until they read over the busiest part of the photograph. Card, Frame and Glass stand the words on a panel, so they cope with almost any picture; Midnight and Corner lay them straight on it, and a very pale photograph — a white sky, a snow field — is the one that needs the overlay turned up. Postcard puts the picture inside the card above the words, so it never needs one and is not offered the setting.
