Answer

Can I use a regular expression?

Updated Redirects 1.8.1Tested with WordPress 7.1

No, and deliberately. A star is something you can write and read back a month later; a regular expression is something people paste from an answer online, and a wrong one quietly redirects part of a site nobody was looking at. A star covers the case that actually comes up, which is moving a section.

That is also why a regular expression kept by another redirect plugin does not come across when you import from it: it is listed as staying behind, and keeps working in that plugin for as long as you leave it on.
