Answer

I deleted a category. What happens?

Updated Redirects 1.8.1Tested with WordPress 7.1

Its address goes onto Broken links straight away, at the top, marked you deleted this category and carrying its name, as long as the list is switched on, you have not already written a redirect for it, and it is not on Never list these addresses. If it was under another category, the row offers that parent, Where it lived: Clothes (product category), and one click fills in the redirect form. Otherwise press Redirect this and choose where its visitors should go.

If it had been renamed before, its older addresses go onto the list with it, and the redirects that kept them working are deleted, because they led to the category you deleted. That is not done when you already have a redirect for its last address, since the older ones reach it through that.
