Why does the picker say Google no longer shows FAQ or How-to results?
Because it does not. Google retired FAQ and How-to rich results, vehicle listings and the sitelinks search box. The markup is still valid and still tells search engines what the page is, so the types stay available, but they will not change how your result looks. The Search Preview draws them as a plain result for the same reason.
