Answer

Which schema type should I use for a blog post?

Updated Schema Pro 1.14.0Tested with WordPress 7.1

Use Article or Blog Posting in Schema Pro: both describe a blog post, take the same fields and fill them in from each post, so either is a sound choice.

In plain words:

  • Article is the general type for editorial content. The setup offers it as the safe default.
  • Blog Posting is a narrower kind of article: a post on a blog. It works the same way, and Google reads it under the same Article rules.
  • News Article is for journalistic content. It is the type tied to Top Stories, so a shop's blog or a personal one does not need it.

For a technical tutorial, keep Article and set its Article subtype field to Technical article.

An example: a shop's blog of buying guides gets one Article schema set to Show on → All Posts, fields left empty, and each post gives its own headline, image, author and dates. Google decides what appears beside the result.
