Answer

The Images and Elements screen does nothing on the Invert or Basic method

Updated Dark Mode 1.8.0Tested with WordPress 7.1

It used to. Before 1.2.0 the excluded elements, the image swaps and the Custom CSS were handed only to the Automatic engine, and the other two methods never load it — so under Invert and Basic those screens were silently ignored. Now the dark logo and image pairs apply in all three, Custom CSS applies in all three, and excluded elements are honoured under Invert as well. The Basic method still cannot restore an element's original colours, because it has no engine to know what they were; the screen says so when Basic is chosen.
