Clicking an entry hides the heading under my sticky header
That is what Settings → Your sticky header is for. Put in the CSS selector for your header — .site-header, #masthead, whatever your theme uses — and its height is measured on the day and allowed for.
Use Stop this far above the heading on top of that if you want a little more breathing room. You should not need it for the admin bar; that is measured separately, and only for people who actually have one.
