Give a long post a contents list readers actually use — and hand Google a set of links straight into your sections.

The list is enormous on my reference page

Three things, in the order worth trying:

  1. Design → Compact — small type packed tight, built for exactly this.
  2. Design → Layout: flat and set Columns to 2 or 3.
  3. Settings → Let a long list be filtered adds a search box above it.

Start folded is the fourth option, though a contents list nobody opens is a contents list nobody uses.
